Jess Carter: England defender says that she received a lot of racial abuse at Euro – the police called to investigate

England works with the police after defender Jess Carter experienced “a lot of racial abuse” in the Euro 2025.

In an explanation on Sunday, the lion women also said that they would now end anti -racism to take a knee in front of the games, and said it was clear that “we and football had to find a different way to tackle racism”.

Carter added that she would take a step back from social media.

The Football Association said that it was “working with the police to ensure that those who are responsible for this hate crime are brought to trial”.

“I experienced a lot of racial abuse from the beginning of the tournament,” said the 27-year-old Carter.

“While I think that every fan is entitled to his opinion on performance and result, I do not agree or think it's okay to target someone or race.

“As a result, I will take a step back from social media and leave it to a team.”

The English team-mate Lotte Wubben-Moy said that she would also submit social media according to the news.

Carter, who has had 49 England Caps since her debut in 2017, was a member of the squad who won Euro 2022.

After starting her career in Birmingham City, she won five women -super League titles with Chelsea before going to Gotham FC last summer.

The National Women's Soccer League of the United States said in an explanation: “We are broken with a broken heart and are outraged by the racist abuse that is directed against Jess Carter.

“Jess is not only a world-class soccer player, she is also a role model, a manager and an estimated part of our Gotham FC family.

“We stand with Jess and appreciate the support of Jess from the Lionesses Football Association, which take part in the UEFA women's championship.”

UEFA of European football added: “Abuse and discrimination should never be tolerated, whether in football or in society, personally or online.”

Before the European Championship semi-final on Tuesday 2025, the lionesses will not take up the knee and have decided to stay present instead.
