Maryland State Police examines the death of the inmate in the Allegany Co. Prison

Maryland State Police is investigating the death of an inmate at the North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland.

Maryland State Police confirmed in a press release that death took place on Friday and identified the person as an 30-year-old inmate Elias Alvarado.

Another inmate is suspected for Alvarado's death, but is not charged at that time because the examination is pending.

The police said that preliminary knowledge pointed out that Alvarado was on the level in a hallway where he lived with another inmate and that he no longer reacted from local officials.

The police said the ongoing investigations are presented to the public prosecutor's office in Allegany County for review.
