FG canceled 2025 WAEC tests nationwide due to widespread misconduct, leaks

In an unprecedented step that shock waves sent by the Nigerian education sector, the Federal Government has announced the immediate rejection of the ongoing examination of the West African Senior School (Wassce) across the country.

The Federal Ministry of Education in cooperation with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) made an explanation on Saturday, citing the time and coordinated examination errors as the reason for the cancellation. The Ministry described the situation as a “systemic violation” that affected the integrity of the entire examination cycle.

“This difficult but necessary decision is followed by escalating reports on widespread examination errors, coordinated leaks of questionnaires and non-authorized digital spread of examination materials about social media and AI-reinforced fraud tools,” says the explanation.

Signed by Dr. (Ms.) Aisha Lawal, General Director of the Federal Examination Regulatory Board, showed the press release that the Task Force of the National Academic Integrity Task Force organized fraud rings that worked in several states.

According to the ministry, the situation has undertaken all efforts to continue the exams in vain and warns that progress “would only reward the misconduct and discredit the efforts of honest candidates”.

Exhibited guidelines: All remaining WAEC exams from Monday, July 22, 2025, will be officially canceled. All previously carried out exams from May 6 to July 18, 2025 are now zero and void; A complete examination and persecution of guilt officers and centers is underway; A new examination schedule will be published on Monday, August 5, 2025, after the stakeholder consultations. The digital and monitoring systems of WAC are overtaken and renewed before the new exams.

However, the ministry recognized the emotional tribute that this cancellation of students and families could have nationwide claimed that “the holiness of education must not be impaired”.
