The American television star Ellen Degeneres has performed her first public appearance since the move to Great Britain and said she decided to settle in England the day after the re-election.

The comedian and host said a lot in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire that life is “just better in Great Britain”.

Ellen said she and Ms. Portia de Rossi considered getting married in England after some movements in the United States to reverse the right to homo -marriage and that America can still be “scary if people are as they are”.

She also dealt with allegations of a toxic job that led to the end of her long-term chat show in 2022 and admitted that she could be “very dull”, but had dismissed the stories as “clickbait”.

“We stay here”

Thanks to her day-to-day chat show, Ellen was one of the biggest names on US television for 30 years a chat show and for the statement by Dory in the search for Nemo for her self-titled sitcom.

After her talk show was canceled, she bought a “last stand-up tour” in the USA in 2024 and then bought a house in the Cotswolds, a historical and picturesque area that mainly extended parts of Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.

On Sunday in the Allman Theater in nearby Cheltenham, she dealt with broadcasters Richard Bacon, who asked whether she reported that she was correct because of Donald Trump. “Yes,” she replied.

The 67-year-old said that she and de Rossi had initially planned to spend three or four months a year in Great Britain and bought what they thought was “a part-time house”.

“We came here the day before the election and woke up to many texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I thought: 'He came in',” she said. “And we 'we stay here'.”

Ellen has in videos that show their farm animals including sheep – although they have now been sold after they had fled, in videos, including sheep, an insight into their new rural life on social media.

“It's absolutely beautiful,” she said. “We are simply not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the cities and the architecture – everything they see is charming and it is just a simpler way of life.

“It's clean. Everything here is simply better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.

“We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew with her horses here, and I have chickens and we had sheep for about two weeks.”

Being hollywood gay is still a problem. '

On her last tour, she joked that she was “thrown out of the show business” twice – when she came out as a gay in 1997.

This effectively led to the end of her sitcom, after the advertisers had pulled out and the network stopped applying it to Cheltenham Crowd on Sunday.

Bacon asked if her visibility encouraged other people to get out. “I would say no,” she replied. “I imagined that a lot of people came out, how to rummage from a hole and go back in. 'How is she?, No, no.'”

But it is “a really tough decision” that does not fit everyone, they continued and said things are better today “, but not others.

“If it was [better]All of these other people who are actors and actresses that I know are gay, they would be outside, but they are not because it is still a problem. People are still afraid. “

Ellen also referred to a recent step by the Southern Baptist Convention to support the reversal of a case of the Supreme Court, which allows a same -sex marriage. At least nine state legislates have introduced legislative templates to do the same.

“The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse the homo,” she said. “They are trying to literally prevent it in the future and possibly reverse. Portia and I are already looking at it, and if you do that, we'll get married here.”

Later she added to an audience question: “I wish we were in a place where it was not scary that people are as they are. I wish we had lived in a society in which everyone else could accept and their differences.

“So until we are there, I think that there is a difficult place to say that we are doing great progress.”

However, the younger generation is “more comfortable with it” and “only a kind of liquid”, added. “So I think that the younger generation will show us the way.”

“Means that I am mean, I'm mean?”

After some former workers in their talk show raised allegations of a toxic workplace culture, the star – who ended every episode by telling the viewers to describe in the media as “common”.

After the scandal, three producers were released due to allegations for misconduct and sexual harassment, and the last season of the show was opened with Ellen, which gave an apology for the air.

She addressed this in her tour in 2024 and the accompanying Netflix stand-up special.

“No matter what, an article that has appeared was how 'she is mean', and how, how do I deal with it without complaining like a victim or 'arm? But I wanted to address it.

“It's so easy, I'm a direct person and I'm very dull, and I think that means that … I'm mean?”

She also said it was “somehow crazy” that it is mean that someone is mean “the worst can be what she says about a woman”.

“How can it dare to have any mood, or you can be nothing more than nice and sweet and friendly and submissive and complacent.”

She added: “I don't think I can say something that will ever get rid of [reputation] Or sprinkle what is hurtful for me. I hate it. I hate that people think that I am because I know who I am and I know that I am a sensitive, compassionate person. “

It was “an unpleasant way of ending her talk show, she said.

Would love a British talk show

Ellen said she missed “a lot” about her show, but does not believe that a similar format would work more.

“I mean, I wish that I would do it because I would do the same here. I would like to do it again, but I just have the feeling that people watch on their telephones, or people don't pay so much attention to TV because we are so flooded with information and entertainment.”

She said she didn't know what she would do in the future, but would choose her next step “very carefully”.

“I just don't know what that is yet,” she said. “I want to have fun, I want to do something. I like my chickens, but I'm a bit bored.”
