Florida Republicans have a new move for immigration reform

Washington DC – Florida's congress member, Maria Salazar, has a new move for the immigration reform in Washington.

The Miami Republican announced the Dignity Act on Tuesday. The legislation aims to grant migrants who have been in the country for at least five years.

According to the legislation, migrants would pay 7,000 US dollars for the achievement of work permits and the protection against deportations without criminal records over seven years. Those who are registered could extend their legal status if they remain in good reason. Legislation offers no way to citizenship and migrants would not be an option for social programs such as Medicare. Salazar, however, said it would enable millions of people who are already working across the country to contribute to their communities and to build a life in the United States.

“We try to get them out of the shadow and work in peace, work, pay taxes,” said Salazar at a press conference in which the legislation was announced.

The draft law also aims to strengthen border security and to expand the e-verify system, with which employers can confirm the legal status of employees to all US companies. It would also offer more protection for so -called “dreamer” that were brought into the country as children.

Salazar and Democratic Cosponsor Rep. Veronica Escobar from Texas have secured a cross -party group of 20 cosponsors for the reforms.

Escobar, who stood next to Salazar to announce the draft law on the Capitol Hill, said that the legislation provides the immigration system for long overdue reforms.

“This will help millions and millions of people who are a critical part of the American economy,” said Escobar. “There has never been a more urgent need that the congress could act.”

Pendants, including the Republican Congressman Mike Lawler, argue that the reforms are necessary to support the broad sectors of the US economy in urgent need for employees, including construction and agriculture. Lawler said without these changes that the nation would be reduced to the so -called “economic misfortune”.

The law is carried out when the Trump government carries out an aggressive strategy for enforcement and deportation through immigration, which includes ice arrest on farms and construction sites in municipalities across the country.

The border of the White House, Zar Tom Homan, has said several times in the past few weeks that there will be no amnesty that is assigned to migrants without papers in critical jobs due to their work. Salazar emphasized that this is not the goal of the bill.

“We talk about dignity, not about amnesty,” said Salazar. “Yes, they broke the law. But someone gave them a job because they needed these workers.”

In her announcement, Salazar, President Trump, briefly addressed him directly and placed him to accept the reforms.

“Sir, I think you could be for immigration what Lincoln was for slavery and what Regan was for communism,” she said. “You are a businessman who understands that our economy needs reliable workers in areas where other Americans do not participate.”

Salazar said she was in contact with the Republican spokesman for the Republican House, Mike Johnson, who has a great say in whether the law has the chance to draw through the congress.
